Week Seven Assignment

Functions of Early Art The Lascaux cave was discovered in 1940 but it made about 19,000 years ago. The caves are covered with painting of animals and other pieces of art. I believe the cave artists weren't trying to say a specific meaning but rather share an aspect of their life. We see this in many other tribes and "cavemen" as art being used as a form of speech to express aspects of their lives for storytelling. I believe there are more animals than humans because animals were their main way of life. During this time period, it is unlikely for there to be a huge population of humans but animals however were both predator and prey to these group of people who made this art. The animals were their food or they were their threat of life. These caves tell me this was their way of survival. The caves were a safe place for the cave dwellers from the outside world with harsh weather, predators, and other dangers. These paintings can be interpreted as many ways. However, I th...

Week Six Assignment

While many cultures have laws or rules about acts of violences which can include murder, it is a different case for the Yanomamo populations. They have different cultures and rules than we do in the West and each question I answer below will delve into the differences.  1. In Yanomamo populations, there isn't a written rule against violence and specifically murder. There are customs but they still have murders. In the case of a murder between two villages, the village of the person who was killed will attack the other village in retaliation. This retaliation does work as a deterrent of more crime in the long run but there are no specific rules to stop it from happening in the first place.  2. Like explained above, when a person who belongs to a specific village is killed, the village retaliates and attacks/raids the opposing village.  3. Unokais are people who have killed. There are some benefits of being unokais like reputation and protection to the village they be...

Week Three Assignment

For this assignment, my brother and I had to take part in an experiment for the first 15 minutes, I couldn't talk in a conversation but for the last 15 minutes, I could talk but with no emotion, only my voice.  PART ONE For the first 15 minutes, it felt weird. He was doing most of the talking but I still showed emotions such as nodding my head and others. At first, it was fun to talk to him but very quickly without me verbally engaging, he seemed to get distracted with smaller things with his phone that left me in silence looking over to him to continue the conversation. In that sense, he had the power in the conversation where it could end whenever he got bored enough and I couldn't talk or anything to continue it. Even with subjects he brought up, he got bored.  The benefit of spoken language is that the most part, there is equal power in the conversation. It is not the same for every dynamic but in most conversations, all parties can communicate what they want without being...
